18+·Isle of Skerra·By Arrangement

Cut into the tideline. Not set above it.

Skerra keeps to a single rock in the North Atlantic, its gaming room let into the old lighthouse-keeper's station rather than raised beside it. The tide takes the causeway twice a day. Nothing here has been tidied for a photograph.

North Landing — Arrival

Three things guests notice on the crossing.

There is no bridge to Skerra and no ferry line. The house boat runs the crossing on the tide, and most guests remember these three things about the water.

01

A rock left to the weather

Skerra has no public road and no landing but its own. The island is left much as the Atlantic made it — the station repaired, the rest untouched.

02

One keeper for the whole stay

Met at the slipway and kept for your stay — one name for the crossing, the tables, and whatever the island asks of you after.

03

A kitchen fed by the line

The day's catch comes off the house longline before dawn. What the boat doesn't bring, the walled garden behind the station does.

E
East Reach — House Policy

Far out doesn't mean unaccountable.

Being hard to reach is no substitute for running things properly. Here is what Skerra actually does about it — and it holds whether the boat is full or you have the rock to yourself.

S
South Rock — The Resort

One room let into the rock. A rim of rooms above it.

Everything Skerra is known for sits at the waterline — a gaming room, a set of tide rooms cut into the wall above it, and a kitchen built to outlast the weather.

The Main Floor

The Low Room

Skerra's principal floor, set against bare granite on the seaward wall — the classics run properly, under a ceiling the old lamp room lends its height to.

  • 01European roulette, blackjack, baccarat and punto banco
  • 02A dedicated poker room, cash games and nightly tournaments
  • 03A small slot room kept apart from the main floor
By Arrangement

The Tide Rooms

Twelve rooms set into the station wall above the water, four with their own private table — for guests who keep their stakes, and the run of the sea, to themselves.

  • 01Private tables with a dedicated dealer, no rail
  • 02Standing bar service, poured to the guest's own measure
  • 03A private stair from room to floor
After the Tables

The Longline Kitchen

A kitchen fed by the boat and the garden, a cellar left open to guests, and a terrace set low to the rock, out of the Atlantic wind.

  • 01A tasting menu and an à la carte kitchen, both to close
  • 02Live music on the terrace, one seating a night
  • 03A private room let into the rock, up to ten guests
W
West Head — The Close

Most leave remembering the sea first, and the tables second.

That is rather the point. Skerra is a place to play well and be looked after, on a rock that was here long before the cards and will be here long after. Come by arrangement, and we will send the boat.
